A Little about the Maker

My name is Jill Balzer. I have been creative for most of my adult life. When my husband Rob and I got married, we bought a fixer upper house and I had no idea how much I would enjoy painting, changing, and DIYing. My husband was a bit taken aback wondering who this crazy driven person was who wanted to make this home her haven.  I had never had my very own place before and I wanted each room to feel like home. Fast forward a few years, I became interested in upcycling furniture and making signs. In 2013, my sister and I started The Farmer's Daughters and Co. We chose the name to honor our dad who passed away when we were young leaving behind my mom and 3 little girls. He had an old red 1951 Ford pickup that we loved and it has been a part of our brand ever since we started. In 2016, I had battled some health issues and all of a sudden, the garage and storage areas that were full of my treasures to complete were overwhelming and it seemed time to part with them. Once I regained my health in 2018, I was ready to paint again, but since I had no furniture to re-do and wood is easier to store, I jumped head first into sign making and haven't looked back. I love taking a plain piece of pine and making it into something special. My sister Stacy remains my sounding board for ideas and opinions, but has taken a step back from creating for the moment.

I have a wonderful husband of 24 years, 3 children and 2 rescue dogs that I adore named Rizzo and Remi. Rizzo is my faithful sidekick who insists on being at my side on every board I am cutting, sanding or prepping. She sees me with wood in hand and she heads for the door.

I am so grateful for all of your support for my small business. I hope you love my products. I have so many plans for the future that include many more signs, painting tutorials and a membership group where I teach other creatives how to do what I do. Stay tuned and join me on my social media links or email list to stay in the loop and be the first to know what I have coming up.  Thank you for being here.
